del.icio.us is not so tasty

As we can not install del.icio.us at work and I am very reluctant to install anything at home ,I would like to ask someone how del.icio.us is different from Favorites on your windows toolbar?

The one thing I have found useful about del.icio.us was having my favorites everywhere. Though, I've only been able to add bookmarks when I'm at home (which means I write down the links to find later and add). But it is nice to have all your links in one place. Honestly, I haven't used it much since I added my initial favorites to it.

But as for the install on the home computer - it's easy and I never had any problems with it. All it does is put a box on your browser window that makes it easy to save a url to your del.icio.us lists.

Delicious doesn't necessarily need to be installed on a computer to add links. The process does take longer, though.

After you log into your account, simply click on "post" or go here:

It's a lot more fun with the buttons, though. I use my delicious when I'm on the desk because I have lots of readers' advisory-type stuff saved.

Thank you for hood_and_hat and emily for comments. What do you guys think about LibraryThing? Initially I loved it but then I am reluctant to let people know what books I have at home. Some titles clearly identify me as a member of certain group or political party ect. I dont want to out for all to see...

I can understand wanting to keep things private. You could just add neutral books for your five? If you'd rather not start and link to an account just make a post about it.

It would be great to have a private library and a public one or just tag a book as "private" that is visible to you when you log in but not the others.

I agree about LibraryThing. I added a tag "show" to some books and made a widget to show those.

Del.icio.us is a great tool. I use it all the time at home, after losing a list of favorites when a computer crashed! That's what I like about it, that it's not connected to a particular hard drive. I also like that you can add multiple tags, rather than just one name (though you can't add tags with two words, which is odd).
